Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
Welcome to 2025!
Welcome Back to School! Welcome to 2025! It’s wonderful to see so many smiling faces as our students enter the gates!
Easter Hat Parade
Our Easter Hat Parade was a wonderful celebration of creativity and joy! Students proudly showcased their beautiful handmade hats, each one bursting with colour, imagination, and Easter spirit. It was fantastic to see the smiles, teamwork, and festive cheer shining through. The Easter bunny (or two!) made a special visit!
At GWPS, we celebrate Aboriginal cultures and histories every day. During NAIDOC Week, our students embraced storytelling, art, and dance as they learned about and honoured the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions of First Nations Australians to our country and community.
Grandparents and Special Friends’ Day
On Friday, 5th July, we joyfully celebrated Grandparents and Special Friends’ Day, a much-loved event on our school calendar. This special day offers students a wonderful opportunity to share their school experiences with the important people in their lives. Despite challenging weather and some last-minute adjustments, the event was a great success.
Guests enjoyed delightful performances from our Year 6 dance group and K-2 students, followed by light refreshments during morning tea. Our school concert bands also entertained everyone with beautiful musical pieces, creating a warm and memorable atmosphere for all.
Father’s Day Breakfast at GWPS
The sun was shining, the handball competition was fierce, and the smell of bacon filled the air as we celebrated Father’s Day at GWPS.
A big thank you to the many fathers and father figures who joined us to acknowledge and celebrate the important role you play in our wonderful community.
Teddy Bears Picnic
Our littlest learners celebrated the start of spring with a very special Teddy Bears’ Picnic, hosted by none other than our very own Gordon Bear!
We were delighted to welcome students from our local preschools, who had the chance to experience a taste of “GWPS school life.” It was wonderful to see so many parents joining in the fun and to meet the special “visiting bears” brought from home.
Sydney North Dance Festival
Congratulations to our exceptionally talented Year 6 Dance Group, who performed at the North Sydney Dance Festival last week. What a remarkable display of dedication, talent, and performance quality.
Our Year 6 students had an unforgettable experience at the Canberra Camp, exploring Australia’s capital city and discovering its rich history and culture. Highlights included visiting the Australian War Memorial, exploring Parliament House, and taking part in exciting Questacon science activities. The camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn, bond, and create lasting memories!
Book Week at GWPS
A wonderful celebration of everything we love about reading! From inspiring author and illustrator visits, to dressing up as our favourite characters, and taking part in the GWPS Book Swap, it’s been a week full of stories, imagination, and fun.
At GWPS, wellbeing is our top priority! This week, we focused on supporting the wellbeing of both students and staff through a range of activities, including R U OK? Day, a PJ disco, daily mindfulness sessions, and extra exercises. It was a fantastic week dedicated to promoting mental health, connection, and positivity across our school community.
The greatest show in town once again captivated our sold-out audiences. Over two incredible days, our talented students lit up the stage with singing, dancing, and acting, wowing everyone with their energy and creativity.
"As a parent, I couldn’t be happier with GWPS. The teachers are kind, supportive, and well-organised. The curriculum is thoughtful, and after-school activities give my child chances to learn, grow, and have fun in a caring community."
